How to Fax a VA Disability Claim or Supporting Evidence
The current VA disability compensation fax numbers, how to organize claim evidence, and when QuickSubmit is the better route.
Veterans can send disability compensation forms and supporting evidence to the VA Evidence Intake Center by fax. The key phrase is disability compensation. Pension, education, health care, insurance, and other VA benefits may use different destinations.
If you have a VA.gov account, QuickSubmit is often easier because it accepts an upload and provides an electronic submission history.
Current VA disability compensation fax numbers
The VA compensation mailing and fax page currently lists:
- From within the United States: 844-531-7818.
- Foreign claimants: 248-524-4260.
Verify the page immediately before sending. If a VA letter, regional office, or accredited representative gave you a case-specific number, follow those instructions.
Organize the evidence before faxing
Include the veteran’s full name and VA file number or Social Security number where the official form requires it. Use the correct VA form for the claim, appeal, or statement. A general letter cannot replace a required form.
Put a cover sheet first with the benefit type, claimant name, contact details, and total pages. List each attachment, such as a medical opinion, treatment record, lay statement, or service document.
Do not send the only copy of an original record. Keep a complete copy of everything that leaves your possession.
Send one readable packet
- Confirm every form is the current version and signed.
- Arrange attachments in the same order as the cover sheet.
- Scan the packet at a size that keeps handwriting and medical notes readable.
- Preview page edges and orientation.
- Use the current disability compensation fax number.
- Save the final PDF and successful transmission report.
If the packet is very long, splitting it can make routing harder. QuickSubmit may be more practical for large files. If you must send multiple faxes, label them “Part 1 of 2” and “Part 2 of 2,” with the veteran and claim reference on each cover page.
Confirm that the evidence reached the file
A fax report does not prove that the evidence has been associated with the claim. Check VA.gov or contact the VA after allowing processing time. An accredited Veterans Service Organization can also help review filing choices without charging a fee.
