How to Receive a Fax on Android
Receive faxes on an Android phone with a personal online fax number. This guide covers setup, notifications, incoming files, and common problems.
You can receive a fax on an Android phone without a fax machine or landline. The missing piece is a dedicated online fax number. Once that number is active, incoming pages appear in the fax app as digital documents.
The sender does not need to use the same app. They can send from an office fax machine, a multifunction printer, or another online fax service.
How to receive a fax on Android
Install the app
Use a fax app whose Google Play listing clearly includes incoming faxes and a receiving number.
Activate receiving
Select the receiving option and review the subscription, page allowance, and available number details.
Share the number
Copy the assigned fax number exactly. Send it to the office or person who needs to fax you.
Check the inbox
Open the received file, check every page, and export an important copy when appropriate.

Make sure Android does not hide the alert

It normally stays in the app’s received-fax history until you view, share, or download it. The exact controls depend on the app and version.
Save a separate copy only when you have a reason to. Documents from healthcare providers, accountants, employers, or government offices can contain private information. Avoid dropping them into a shared Downloads folder or an account used by several people.
If you need to fax something back
You can attach an existing PDF or scan a paper page. Google Drive on Android can scan a document and save it as a PDF or JPG. Before sending, look at every page at normal size and zoom in on signatures, small account numbers, and handwritten notes.
The receiving number and the number you fax back to are different things. Use the recipient number printed on the document or supplied by the sender.
Common Android receiving problems
- No incoming number: You may have selected a send-only plan.
- No notification: Check Android notification and battery settings, then open the app directly.
- The sender gets an error: Recheck the country code and every digit of your fax number.
- The file is incomplete: Ask the sender for their transmission report and have them resend the missing pages.
- The number stopped working: Confirm that the receiving subscription is active.
